Las Cumbras Mountains

Canary Islands Tourist Information and Travel Guide

Las Cumbras are the jagged mountain peaks that are visible on the Island of La Palma. These mountains play an important role in blocking clouds and capturing moisture.  They also provide a refuge for endangered wildlife.

The Canary Island of La Palma is covered with lush vegetation and thick forests.  This is due in part to these high mountain peaks.

The island's geographic location at the western side of the Canary archipelago affects the amount of rainfall it receives.  This is because of its proximity to the Gulf Stream.

Like all the other Canary Islands, La Palma is a volcanic island.  Its volcano rises to an elevation of nearly 8,000 feet.
